Introduction to CFSOT and its activities

Foundation of the Centre

Founded in early 2006, as an independent research and training organisation that looks at terrorism
and security-related issues from the other point of view including Islamic one. Both the function and
philosophy of CFSOT are truly unique. The founding philosophy of the Centre is that there is ample
scope for the other point of view especially a “Muslim perspective” on terrorism and terrorism studies.
Therefore, the aim is not necessarily to counter the Western point of view, neither to divide the world
into the west and the rest as the Neo Cons do but to help everybody concerned gain a better
understanding into the terrorism and security challenges that confront all of us in this new turbulent
century.

1 - Inauguration

The official inauguration of CFSOT in October 2006 provided a glimpse into the type of courses and
seminars which the centre is holding and its ambitious program.

The inauguration featured presentations by experts and scholars on the theme of the real Crisis in
the Muslim World with Reference to the Afghan Jihad as an example of misunderstood issue. The role
of Muslim Brotherhood in that Jihad  is misunderstood as well. An example that needed more insight to
succeed and bring proper fruits, reform and Islamic State. The event was attended by a cross-section
of the British and expatriate community, including government officials, the media, law enforcement
agencies, academics, scholars, diplomats and religious leaders.

2 - Activities:

There are two dimensions to the Centre’s activities:

A- Research and
B- Training.

A) Research & Islamism Digest

The core function of the research department is the production of “Islamism Digest”, CFSOT’s
monthly publication. Islamism Digest is unique insofar as it is the only publication in the world that is
dedicated mainly to the in-depth study of Islamic movements, philosophy, opinion approach and
practice through high-quality primary sources. Indeed, each edition of the Digest carries interviews
with leaders of Islamic groups and/or liberation movements, thinkers, philosophers and men of opinion.

Moreover, Islamism Digest is committed to outlining and developing the “Muslim point of view” on
terrorism specifically and the other point of view generally.

This is achieved both through the interviews (as every interviewee is questioned at length about his
views on the causes and definition of terrorism) and as well through quality analytical articles.

Islamism Digest is available on subscription at £250.00 (or its equivalent in US Dollars), for details visit

B) Training:

The training dimension of CFSOT revolves around courses, workshops and seminars on terrorism
and the various crises that have engulfed the global Muslim Ummah and local communities.

These courses and seminars are designed to provide in-depth and original insights into the conflicts
in Afghanistan, Palestine, Iraq, Lebanon, Chechnya, Kashmir, Somalia and other zones of conflict in
the Muslim world, primarily and in other Regions, Counties and areas as well.

The Centre holds tailored workshops and training courses on terrorism-related issues. Facilitated by
experts and practitioners from different fields of specialization, these workshops and training courses
can be held any where in the world. For a thought grasp of issue and developments, these are mostly
run for two full days.

The courses are especially suited to government officials, members of the media and academics keen
to develop deeper insights into the causes and complexities of conflicts in the Muslim world and
beyond.

C) Consultancy Services:

The Centre for the study of Terrorism provides bespoke consultancy services on terrorism related
issues and any topic linked to the politics and security of the Middle East and North Africa. We also
organise personalised workshops and seminars.

D) Annual Conference:

CFSOT`s Annual Conference, which reviews the work of the Centre and global developments in
terrorism and extremism, is held in London. The Conference is an opportunity for experts, academics,
government officials and the media to get together and develop consensus and understanding on
terrorism and security-related topics.

Thanks and best regards.

Yours Faithfully,
